During the Summer Term, DMH Music Area Leader for East Dorset, Pete Whitmarsh, is supporting samba transition projects in both the Ferndown and Corfe Mullen pyramids for Year 4 pupils. After the success of this project in previous years, we are extending the project to include the Wimborne pyramid.
These projects allow all the Year 4 children in these pyramids the opportunity to learn traditional samba ‘grooves’ in the familiar surroundings of their first school. Then, when these pupils visit their new middle school on transfer day, they will perform these ‘grooves’ alongside the other members of their new Year 5 cohort.
With the support of the middle school music subject leads, and Pete Whitmarsh, the children in all participating first schools are already busy learning their rhythmic patterns for an enjoyable and inclusive transfer day experience!
