Music Mentoring

Music Mentoring sessions are 1:1, 45-minute, weekly sessions which are tailored to young people with social, emotional and/or mental health barriers, and with personal outcomes such developing resilience, agency and a sense of belonging through music. These outcomes are just as important as musical ones in this 1:1 programme.

The success of these sessions is driven by a trusting relationship where the pupil feels safe and free to explore his/her/their own creativity through music.

The music leader guides the young person in making his/her/their own music with or without the help of an online digital audio workstation (‘BandLab’), and with or without using traditional acoustic/electric instruments or vocals.

Typically, the young person will end up with several tracks/songs at the conclusion of the 10-week programme.

It is possible to arrange sessions at home, in a school, or at other alternative settings such as youth centres.

Costs:

  • 10 weeks online: £400
  • 10 weeks face-to-face: £500
  • 20 weeks online: £750
  • 20 weeks face-to-face: £900

Music Mentoring sessions are often funded by agencies already working with the student or by their parents/carers – sometimes with financial support gained from grants.

If you are interested in this programme for one of your students, please submit an online nomination for them.
